Pictures of Seattle: Day I

We're in Seattle for the weekend. Saturday we visited Pike Place Market, the Space Needle, and various other sights.

This is quite a cool city. I've been quite brazen about taking pictures of strangers this weekend too. I'm sorry, but if you cross paths with me, I'll probably take your picture–especially is you're an extremely creepy sea-clown.

Do You Twitter?

lately, I've been Twittering like a mad man. I find it quite fun and right now its more my speed than Facebook.

If you twitter, hit me up. If you don't, you should.

Oh, and if you like Twitter, you're gonna love my new site for the BIG Foliolympics. It's gonna blow your mind! Make sure to vote and let us know what you're looking for in a site.

Rockin' iPhone Site

So, I'm just wrapping up a new custom site for a certain incredible photographer (hint: UK+PJ+Canon).

I decided to work in a sweet little iPhone version of the site. I have to admit, it's pretty slick. I've had a hacked up iPhone site for myself for awhile, but this one is much better.

It has a contact form, pages and galleries that are integrated into our control panel, and a slick interface powered by iUI.

Check it out in action below. Look for it in your BIG Folio site sometime soon.

Don't Believe the Hype

David Jay loves to use his forum to build hype for his products. Now, it appears, he's using it to take cheap shots at his soon-to-be competitors. In this post, after slamming another company, he clearly takes a shot at us for our $25 a month hosting fee. He also makes sure everyone knows hosting for ShowIt Sites is free.

Apparently David thinks photographers aren't smart enough to see through his semantics. Let's get something straight: ShowIt Sites is going to charge $39 per month. Since hosting is free, I'm not exactly sure what you're paying for.

Let's get one more thing straight: $25 would be a big hosting fee if it were a standard hosting account. But thats not what we offer.

Now, I don't want people to be fooled, so let's run some numbers real quick:

Cost of website after 1 year BIG Folio Standard: $454
BIG Folio Premium: $1,050
ShowIt Sites: $468

Cost of website after 3 years BIG Folio Standard: $862
BIG Folio Premium: $1650
ShowIt Sites: $1,404

Wow, that $39 a month non-hosting fee really adds up, doesn't it? Over a year, one of our standard sites is less expensive than ShowIt. And, after 4 years, our premium sites are less expensive too. Oh, and you're always welcome to switch designs every year.

Normally, I would submit a reply to hit-pieces like this–but I don't participate in OSP any more. While I love the photographers on there, the conflict of interest exhibited by its owner is more than I can bare.

4 Down, 1 to Go. Wedding Photography Update.

This past week I booked my fourth wedding of the year. Because of my schedule (and a stork that keeps bringing babies to my house), I've set a limit of only 5 weddings this year. Any more and I just wouldn't be able to give each one the attention they deserve.

So, all that to say, if you need a wedding photographer in California or Oregon (and you're getting married in August or later), drop me a line asap.

Of course, if I'm not available, you should still drop me a line because I know a kazillion incredible photographers (most of whom are better than me) and I can recommend someone great for you.

If you're a photographer and you need an easily distracted 2nd shooter for your next exotic wedding, drop me a line–I'm always up for 2nd shooting.

Oh, and if you're wondering why there's no wedding images on my website, that is by design. You can find plenty of wedding images here on the blog or by contacting me.

Rock on.

Forward in time
