2 Hours to go

I got to the San Luis Obispo AT&T store this morning at 10:30am. I scored the 6th place in line for the new iPhone. Kate brought Jessica and her friend McKayla at 12:30 and they scored line positions 12 and 13 (I'm paying them $5 an hour).

Here's a picture of my little area. I brought a cooler of Smart Waters and my beach mat.

iPhone

Kate is holding my spot right now while I get some work done and the babies nap. I'll be back in line by 5pm.

It looks like [b]ecker may get his iPhone slightly before me, but I'll see if I can blog before him.

Shell Beach Family Portraits

Yesterday I had a wonderful time taking pictures of the M family. We met in Shell Beach and took pictures until the sun went down.

As you can see, they're a beautiful family–which makes my job pretty easy.

Here's a peek at some of the pictures. Enjoy.

Blogging for SEO

I have quite a few blogs in my Google Reader, but I've been getting a bit pickier about who I let in my subscriptions list.

One of my favorite recent subscriptions is Copyblogger by Brian Clark. This year we've really been focusing on search engine optimization for photographers, so I'm always on the lookout for quality blogs on the subject. Copyblogger is all about applying good copywriting skills to your online marketing endeavors. I've concluded over the last year that photographers are generally terrible at copywriting on their websites and blogs, so this blog is a breath of fresh air. Any photographer who is serious about improving their writing/blogging skills should read this blog.

Brian's recent entry, Blueprint for a Brilliant Blog Launch is especially good and applicable to photographers.

I've always argued that photographers should write what Brian calls "cornerstone content" on their blog. Of course, I don't think anyone has ever taken my advice.

If you're a photographer and you want to improve your search engine positioning, you should be blogging. You should also be blogging more than just pictures. If you are blogging (or preparing to start), definitely read this post.

Jessica in the Village

It cost me a venti Frappuccino, but I was able to bribe Jessica into a quick portrait session in the Village today. I've been wanting to try out my Father's Day lens (Canon 85mm/1.8) all week and this finally gave me a chance.

Only another month until Jessica is a teenager and hates my guts for the next 5 years.

What's a father to do?

Pismo Beach Portraits

Yesterday I had the pleasure of photographing a portrait session for my friend Jason and his family. We met up at Pismo Beach, just south of the pier, about an hour before sunset.

I haven't taken a lot of beach portraits, so I'm still getting a handle on managing the light. Of course at the beach there's no open shade, so you really have to wait for those few minutes right before sunset when the light is just perfect.
